Apprenticeship Programs

Want to learn a skilled trade and earn money while doing it? An apprenticeship is an agreement between a person (an apprentice) who wants to learn a skill and an employer who needs a skilled worker. Most of the education is on the job, but supplemented by courses at a training institution.

Are you an apprentice in one of the 52 Red Seal trades? You may be eligible for up to $4000 in federal government grants.

The Basics:

  • Apprentices earn wages while learning their trade.
  • Each province or territory has its own list of designated trades that are eligible for apprenticeship programs.
  • Successful completion of an apprenticeship program leads to certification, which will enable you to work in that field.
  • Earning a Red Seal endorsement means that your skills will be recognized from province to province.
